From our very beginning – opening Homelands in 1987 – we shared our home and our lives with our Patrons. We have been fortunate to grow, but we have never strayed from our original ways. Everything that we have built within our organisation has been derived from strong foundations and fundamentals.
Being a part of our community comes from our history – Oatlands was first opened in 1947 to serve those made homeless from the bombings. We are proud to continue that tradition of serving our community to the present day.
And our carers are the heart of our community. We value, respect and look after them. Every member of our team is treated as an equal.
We hold regular team member and patron meetings; we have connections with the local church who come to hold services here every Sunday; and we have a long-established relationship with Little Crystals Nursery who have been regular visitors and supporters over the years. We have hosted amazing community events, including our legendary summer party where we invite the whole community to come and celebrate with us.
Our Patrons, visitors, and team members are all treated as family; cared for with our personal touch.
We do not use agency staff within our care services. We carry out our own direct recruitment and development to grow a strong family culture to care for your loved ones. The majority of our team have worked here for many years and are members of the local community.
We have the upmost compassion for every Patron and their families. Everything in our care community comes from our heart.
We look for genuine kindness and a caring nature. For us, experience and qualifications are not always the most important thing as everyone can learn how to care in the right way if their heart is in the right place.
We are always looking for ways we can connect with our Patrons. Through our activities programme and other amazing initiatives, we have pioneered including Memory Bridge and Namaste, we have a number of effective ways of making these connections and magical moments.
The combination of these creates an exceptional atmosphere, unlike any care home we’ve ever seen. We have a warm, safe and truly happy place our Patrons can call home. This sets out our mission and objective; every day we strive to excel in our ethos.
